Longpigs formed in Sheffield in 1991 as a quartet. They released their debut album 'The Longpigs' in 1996, which included the song 'Lost Myself.' That track became something of a cult favorite with its introspective lyrics and haunting melody.
Their second album 'Mobile Home' came out in 1998, followed by 'The Sun Is Often Out' in 2003. Guitarist Richard Hawley left the band in 2001, which changed their sound and direction. They put out another album called 'Almanac' in 2016.
Their music had a particular quality that some listeners found too melancholic or introverted for mainstream tastes. Crispin Hunt's vocals carried a vulnerability that defined much of their work, including songs like 'Sally Dances' and 'All Hype.' They never quite broke through commercially, but they maintained a devoted following who appreciated their particular approach to alternative rock.
