Los Ángeles Azules formed in Iztapalapa, Mexico City, in 1976. They started playing small local venues, and their sound has always been rooted in Mexican cumbia. Their 1990s album 'Como Te Voy a Olvidar' gave them a breakthrough, with the title track becoming a staple.
Their music blends cumbia rhythms with other Latin styles, and they've worked with various artists over time. You can hear this in collaborations like 'Nunca Es Suficiente' with Natalia Lafourcade and 'Otra Noche' with Nicki Nicole. Another well-known song of theirs is '17 Años'.
In 1999, the band's lead singer Elías Mejía Avante died in a car accident. His brother Jorge Mejía Avante took over as vocalist afterward. The group continued recording and performing, maintaining their place in the cumbia scene.
