Los Chunguitos were a Spanish rumba band from the Vallecas neighborhood of Madrid, formed by brothers Juan and José Salazar. They started playing in local bars and festivals, drawing from their gypsy heritage. Their first album came out in 1977, and its track 'Me Quedo Contigo' became a hit right away.
Their music connected with working-class listeners in Spain, with songs about love and everyday struggles. They put out albums like 'Barrio' in 1978 and 'Por Ti' in 1980. Other songs people remember include 'Dame Veneno' and 'Yo Me Enamore'.
In the early 1980s, they had a legal dispute with a former producer over song rights. Juan Salazar also dealt with personal issues during that period. The band kept recording and performing despite these challenges, with a discography that grew to include more than twenty studio albums.
