Archive material and source history

Los Churumbeles de España formed in the 1960s, led by José Luis Sanz. They were a flamenco group that faced some early financial struggles and skepticism about their style, but they kept performing and built a following. In 1966, they released "El Gitano Señorón," which became their breakthrough single.

That song, along with others like "No Te Puedo Querer," helped them gain national and international attention. Their sound mixed flamenco with pop elements, and their performances were known for being energetic and visually distinctive. The original lineup included José Luis Sanz on vocals, Juan José Sanz and José Manuel Sanz on guitars, Paco Fernández on vocals and bass, and Salvador Fernández on vocals and drums.

They released several albums through the 1960s and 1970s, including El Baile de los Churumbeles in 1967 and Flamenco Auténtico in 1970. Their flamboyant approach sometimes drew criticism from traditionalists, but they maintained their own version of the music. They recorded a live album in 1975.
