Los Coçadores del Chaco formed in 1969 in the Gran Chaco region of Paraguay. The original lineup included José del Rosario Ortiz on vocals and guitar, Francisco de Paula Ortiz on accordion, Manuel Morel on bajo sexto, Amado Delvalle on bongos, and Juan Cancio Barreto on drums. They started playing local festivals and community events, building their sound from Paraguayan folk traditions.
Their 1972 song "La Garantia Soy Jo" became a breakthrough hit, with its melody and lyrics connecting widely across the country. Other tracks like "A Mordida da Vaca Banguela" and "Doido é Tu" followed, helping establish their presence in Paraguayan music. They released albums including "El Fogón de los Recuerdos" in 1975 and "Alma Guarani" in 1978.
In 2012, the band faced plagiarism accusations regarding the melody of "La Garantia Soy Jo," which they denied, maintaining it was original work inspired by Paraguayan folk music. Their recordings, from early releases to later ones like "El Regreso" in 2000, have kept their music in circulation among fans of regional folk styles.
