Los Compadres formed in Cuba during the mid-1990s. Their sound mixed traditional Cuban rhythms with modern pop touches, and they built a following with energetic live shows. The band's lineup included vocalist Wilfredo 'Pachi' Naranjo Jr., bassist and vocalist Mario 'Mayito' Rivera, percussionist Raul 'Bigote' Acosta, and keyboardist Andres 'Andy' Abreu.
Their 1996 album 'Preparen Candela' gave them a breakthrough, with the title track becoming widely known. They followed it with albums like 'Son Tropical' in 2000 and 'El Baile de la Vida' in 2004. Another song, 'Caiman a He,' also found an audience.
The group split temporarily in the early 2000s but later reunited. In 2007, they were involved in a legal dispute over the rights to 'Preparen Candela' with a former producer, which was eventually resolved in their favor.
