Los Corrientes

Los Corrientes formed in Valledupar around 2005, with Omar Geles on accordion and Rafael Santos on vocals. Their first single, "Por Accidente," caught on quickly in Colombia, pulling them out of local gigs and into wider recognition. That song set a pattern for their early work, which stayed close to vallenato roots while letting in other sounds from the coast.

They put out albums steadily through the late 2000s, like El Trovador in 2007 and Doble Vía in 2008. Some of their other tracks, such as "Cuando Me Empieces a Odiar" and "Extraños Seres Verdes," kept that mix of traditional accordion lines and more contemporary arrangements. The band faced some legal trouble in 2007 over a song use, but they kept recording and playing.

By the early 2010s, they had released several more records, including Consentimiento and Se Armó la Travesía. Their music never strayed too far from that vallenato foundation, even as it picked up hints of pop and rock here and there. They remained a working band in the Colombian circuit, known for straightforward, melodic songs that didn't overcomplicate the format.
