Los Machucambos formed in Medellín, Colombia in 1958. Their early lineup included Gustavo Quintero on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Rafael Ricardo on maracas and vocals, Álvaro Velásquez on electric guitar, Hernán Marín on drums, and Jaime Valencia on bass. They released their debut album in 1962, which helped them gain attention in Colombia.
Their song 'Pepito' came out in 1963 and became their most recognizable track.
Gustavo Quintero left the band in 1966, and Guillermo Martínez took over on vocals. Beyond 'Pepito,' Los Machucambos recorded other songs like 'A Mover La Colita,' 'Cuando calienta el sol,' 'El Caiman,' and 'El Condor Pasa.'
