Los Madalenas

Los Madalenas formed in Barcelona in 1981, a four-piece punk band that included vocalist Capdevila, guitarist Tusquets, bassist Torner, and drummer Gispert. They came up during a time when the Spanish music establishment wasn't particularly welcoming to their kind of sound. Their debut album, 1983's 'Punk Rock,' gave them a title track that became something of an anthem.

Their lyrics often spoke to the frustrations of the era, and they faced some censorship and hostility from authorities who found their material too provocative. They kept at it anyway, releasing another album called 'Irregular' the following year. Songs like 'A Una Bala de Mi' and 'Ardamos' carried that raw, relentless energy they were known for.

They weren't trying to polish things up. The music stayed urgent and direct, built on Torner's bass lines and Gispert's drumming with Tusquets' guitar work cutting through. It was music for people who felt on the outside of things, and for a while in the early '80s, they gave that feeling a pretty loud voice.
