Los Mafiaboyz

Los Mafiaboyz came up in San Juan, Puerto Rico in the late 1990s, putting out underground mixtapes that caught attention with their raw sound. The duo, Marcos Sánchez and Randy Ortiz, worked under the names Tempo and Baby Rasta. Their track 'La Estrella' from 2002 became a breakout hit, pushing them beyond the local scene.

Their early albums like 'El Mafioso' and 'Los Dueños Del Underground' kept that unfiltered reggaeton energy. Later records such as 'El Fenómeno' and 'El Respaldo' showed them trying out more mainstream production, mixing in pop and hip-hop elements. The music often drew criticism for its explicit content, which led to some radio bans.

Marcos Sánchez, known as Tempo, handled much of the writing and had a reputation for sharp lyrics. Randy Ortiz, or Baby Rasta, rounded out the duo's vocal presence.
