Los Talaveras formed in Culiacán, Sinaloa in the late 1970s with six musicians including Alfredo Ríos on vocals and Gilberto Medina on accordion. Their 1980 debut album featured the song 'Ella,' which became a hit and established their presence in Mexican regional music.
They released albums like 'Tu Traición' in 1987 and 'Historias de Corridos' in 2001, working in the corrido and ballad traditions. In 1995, saxophonist Armando Romero died in a car accident, and the band continued without him.
In 2008, Los Talaveras were involved in a legal dispute over song rights that they eventually won. The group has seen lineup changes over time, but Ríos, Medina, and bassist Sergio Soto remained as core members through much of their career.
