They had a hit in 1963 with "¡Ala Qué Chilero!" that became one of their signature songs. The group recorded for years, putting out albums like "Los Tamales en Nueva York" in 1964 and "El Caballo Blanco" in 1965.
Their sound mixed traditional Mexican music with other styles, and they kept recording through the 1960s with releases like "La Esquina del Recuerdo" in 1966 and "El Baile del Gorila" in 1967. Other songs in their catalog include "A Pesar de Todo," "Dilema," and "Luciérnaga."
Flores sang lead and played guitar until 1987, Maldonado played accordion until 1991, Chuy Martínez played drums until 1982, and Pepe Martínez played bass until 1976. They were known for a straightforward approach that worked within Mexican musical traditions while occasionally drawing from outside influences.
