Los Tchopatcho formed in Lisbon in the late 1990s, with Pedro Salvador on vocals and guitar, João Martins on bass and vocals, and Mário Delgado on drums and percussion. Their sound mixed traditional Portuguese fado with more experimental elements, which sometimes drew criticism from fado purists.
Their 2001 debut album 'Coita D'Amor' gave the band its title track, a melancholic ballad that became their most recognizable song. Other tracks like 'Garota Fantástica' and 'Tempo e Destino' show their range across different moods and approaches.
They released four more albums after that debut: 'Do Amor à Dor' in 2003, 'Estigma' in 2007, 'Memória' in 2012, and 'Resistência' in 2019. Their lyrics sometimes touched on social and political themes, which added another layer to their work beyond the musical experimentation.
