Los Tigrillos

Los Tigrillos came together in Monterrey during the 1960s, with Leonardo Villarreal on vocals alongside his brothers Dionisio and Efrén, and guitarist Alberto Martínez. They worked in a norteño style that drew from folk and ranchera traditions, though it was Villarreal's voice that gave their music its particular character.

In 1968 they recorded "La Vampiresa," a ballad about a woman who seduces and kills her victims. It became their best-known track, though the attention brought them trouble with censors and critics.

They kept recording despite the pushback, but the details of their later work and eventual disbandment aren't well documented. What remains is mostly that one haunting song and the memory of Villarreal's voice carrying its strange tale.
