Los Titanes de Durango formed in 1995, started by Sergio Gómez and Alfredo González. They played local cantinas and festivals around Durango, building a following with corridos that dealt plainly with violence and drug culture. Their song 'Ya empezo la balacera' became something of an anthem in that narco-corrido space.
In 2008, Sergio Gómez was killed. The band kept going, with Mario Quintero on vocals and accordion, José Ángel Quintero on guitar, Ulises Quintero on drums, Sergio Sánchez on bass, and Gerardo Ortiz on keyboards. Their music stayed rooted in the same themes, with tracks like 'El Prostipirugolfo' and 'Andan Pisteando Las Plebes' keeping to that raw, regional style.
They never really softened their approach or broadened their sound much. The lyrics stayed explicit, the stories stayed local, and the audience that found them early stayed with them. It's straightforward, unadorned music from a specific place, made for the people who live there.
