Lou Gramm was born Louis Grammatico in Rochester, New York, in 1950. He joined Foreigner in 1976, replacing original vocalist Kelly Hansen. With Gramm as frontman, Foreigner released their self-titled debut album in 1977, which included songs like 'Feels Like the First Time' and 'Cold as Ice.' The band's 1978 album 'Double Vision' featured the single 'Urgent,' and their 1981 album '4' included 'Waiting for a Girl Like You.'

In 1987, Gramm released his first solo album, 'Midnight Blue.' The title track became a well-known song for him. He also recorded solo songs like 'Lost In The Shadows' and 'Angel With A Dirty Face.'

Gramm was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1997. He recovered and returned to performing.
