Chameleon

I talk like a chameleon,

I am waiting on my back,

(Hiding my children from the storm).

I know as far as ethereal goes you have forgotten it all.

It's once bitten, twice and those poppies have put you to sleep.

Can you shake off her narcosis as you're staring back at me?

As brave as I am,

I come out talking counterfeit.

You're no mystery to me,

I just can't work out how to breathe slowly.

(But this is nothing new).

I'll be the rain on my own.

You didn't have so much to say,

As I put my insides on a plate.

You didn't want to look let alone swallow,

You didn't want to look let alone be,

I come out with a broken down mystery.

I can't work out how you cannot love me.

Not walk around with untidy hands,

Making you my own misery.

At reinventing yourself in some other world with me.

A love out of context, without reference to your shaped reality.
