A Calgary group that turned radio-friendly rock into lasting party soundtracks in the 1980s.
If you want to get Loverboy, start with 'Working For The Weekend', it's the one everyone knows. For something a bit later, 'Create a Monster' has that same energy.
Loverboy's sound was built around Mike Reno's vocals and Paul Dean's guitar work, with songs like 'Working For The Weekend' becoming a signature track that stuck around long after its release. 'Turn Me Loose' and 'Heaven In Your Eyes' kept them on playlists through the decade, and later tracks like 'Create a Monster' showed they kept writing. Their music has a straightforward, catchy quality that just works for driving or a night out.
They came out of Calgary, Alberta in the early 1980s, with their self-titled debut in 1980 and 'Get Lucky' the next year. In 1982, bassist Douglas Smith was seriously injured in a car accident, which affected touring and recording for a while. By the late 1980s, some critics called their music too radio-friendly, but they put out eight studio albums in total.
