Lowtalker

Lowtalker formed in Brooklyn in the early 2000s, with vocalist Jordan Dreyer and bassist David Shapiro at the center. They put out their first album, 'An Ordinary Life,' in 2006. The music was spare and direct, built around Dreyer's confessional writing.

A song like 'Thats how it starts' from their 2010 album shows the band leaning into a more polished but still emotionally raw sound. They've worked with other musicians over time, including guitarists Mike Ferrer and Brian Gibson, but the focus has remained on Dreyer's lyrics about personal struggle and heartbreak.

Their music doesn't aim for anthems. It's more about quiet reflection, which has connected with a particular audience in alternative rock. They've kept making records on their own terms, without much fanfare outside of that circle.
