Loy Boss

Loy Boss started in Rio de Janeiro around 2007, originally calling themselves Garotos da Zona Sul. They're a trio with Gustavo Tavares on vocals, Leonardo Schutzenberger on guitar, and Diogo Lopes on bass. Their name references Jamaican musician Leroy Gorrie, which gives a hint about their musical leanings.

In 2012, their song 'Uma Garota, Minha Vida' drew criticism for how it portrayed women. The band defended the work as an exploration of relationships rather than something intentionally offensive. That track became one of their most recognized pieces.

They've drawn from samba, funk, and soul traditions, though their catalog isn't extensive. The group has toured, but their output has been measured rather than prolific.
