Lucky Hono formed in Los Angeles in 2005, taking their name from the Hawaiian phrase for 'lucky soul.' The group's early years were lean, with financial constraints making it hard to break through in a crowded field. They eventually found their footing with a sound that mixed Latin rhythms with R&B and pop, anchored by lead vocalist and guitarist Alex Hono.
Their debut album 'Suerte' arrived in 2007, but it was 2010's 'Deseo' that really put them on the map. That album included the single 'Porque Será,' which became their signature track. The record's explicit lyrics and provocative videos drew some criticism, but it also earned them a devoted following.
Later albums like 'Esperanza' in 2013 and 'Amor' in 2016 showed the band continuing to work in that same melodic, rhythm-driven space. The core lineup included bassist Renzo Vega, percussionist Javier Rojas, and drummer Alex Villalobos alongside Hono.
