Lucy Pearl

Lucy Pearl was a short-lived R&B trio formed by Ali Shaheed Muhammad from A Tribe Called Quest, Dawn Robinson from En Vogue, and Raphael Saadiq. They released just one album together in 2000, a self-titled collection that blended their different backgrounds into something that felt both familiar and new. The group's sound pulled from the hip-hop production Muhammad knew, the vocal harmonies Robinson brought from her time with En Vogue, and the soulful songwriting Saadiq was developing on his own.

Their single 'Dance Tonight' captured that mix well, with a groove that felt both classic and contemporary. The album didn't spawn a long career for the trio, but it had a specific sound that people still remember. It was one of those projects where three established artists came together briefly, made something cohesive, and then moved on to their other work.
