Archive material and source history
Luidiberto Guerra was born in Recife, Brazil in 1943. He started playing guitar early and developed a raw singing style that would become familiar to Brazilian rock listeners in the 1970s.
His song "Eu Exijo" came out in 1973 and became associated with resistance during Brazil's authoritarian period. The government took notice of his critical lyrics, and he was arrested that same year. Other songs from that time include "Linda e Assumida" and "Meu Castigo."
Guerra recorded with a band that included Joe Lima on bass and Fernando Morais on drums. He kept making music through the late 1970s and into the 1980s, putting out albums like "Um Grito no Quintal" in 1979 and "Amigos do Bar" in 1982.
