Luiza Rosa

Luiza Rosa is a Brazilian musician whose work draws from the traditions of the Tupinambá people. In 2013, she visited Tupinambá territory in Bahia, where she saw the community's struggles with deforestation and climate change. That experience led her to start the Tupinambá Project, a collective with indigenous musicians focused on cultural preservation.

Her album 'Tupinambá' came out of that collaboration, mixing traditional chants with contemporary rhythms. Songs like 'Canto Ao Fogo' and 'Bhakti' reflect this blend. Some critics have questioned her approach, suggesting it might be cultural appropriation, but Rosa has described her work as collaborative solidarity.

She was born in Rio de Janeiro to parents involved in the arts and environmental conservation, which shaped her early exposure to music and indigenous stories. Her music doesn't aim for broad commercial appeal but instead serves as a platform for these cultural and environmental concerns, grounded in specific places and relationships.
