Luizinho & Limeira

Luizinho & Limeira were a Brazilian sertanejo duo who formed in Franca, São Paulo in 1965. Luizinho was born Luiz Gonzaga do Nascimento, and Limeira was José Francisco dos Santos. Their music came from the countryside tradition, with straightforward arrangements built around their voices and acoustic instruments.

In 1967 they had their biggest hit with "O Menino da Porteira," a song about a boy watching over cattle that connected deeply with rural listeners. Other songs like "Pé Na Tábua" and "Casamento É Uma Gaiola" followed a similar path, simple melodies with lyrics about country life, love, and everyday struggles.

They recorded several albums through the 1970s and early 1980s, including "Flores do Sertão" and "O Boiadeiro." At one point there were accusations that "O Menino da Porteira" borrowed too much from an older song, though the duo maintained it was their own work. They kept performing their brand of sentimental sertanejo for years, with songs like "Pretinho Aleijado" and "Sagrado Ofício" staying in their setlists.
