While acting, Benward kept making music. His first single, 'Had Me @ Hello,' came out in 2012. He followed it with other tracks like 'Cloud 9' and 'Everyday Hero,' touring and playing his songs live. A Christmas tune, 'Finally Feeling Like Christmas,' also shows up in his catalog.
In 2017, some viewers criticized his role in the movie 'Life Itself,' questioning his portrayal of a gay character. Benward responded that he believed in representing different perspectives. His music since then includes the upbeat 'Get Up.'
