Lulu was born Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie in Glasgow in 1948. She started performing young, and at fifteen she put out her debut album, which included the single 'Shout.'
In 1967 she sang the title track for the film To Sir, With Love. That song became a global hit and defined her career for many listeners. She also recorded 'The Man With The Golden Gun' for the James Bond film of the same name.
She represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest twice, in 1969 and again in 2009. In 2000 she was appointed an MBE for her work in music and charity.
