Lumsk

Lumsk is a Finnish atmospheric black metal band that started around 2014, led by guitarist and vocalist Tuomas Saukkonen, who also played in Before the Dawn and Dawn of Solace. Their name means 'snow' or 'enigma' in Finnish, which fits with the cold, mysterious feel of their music. They draw inspiration from Finnish forests and Nordic mythology, trying to capture something of that landscape in sound.

Their debut album 'The Woven Web' came out in 2015, followed by 'Whispers of Winter' in 2017 and 'Shadowdance' in 2020. Songs like 'Allvis' and 'Åsgårdsreia' show their mix of black metal with folk touches, using heavy riffs, sharp violin parts, and haunting keyboard lines to build their atmosphere. Early on, some listeners found their work too simple or unoriginal, but they kept at it, refining what they do.

They've built a sound that's both immersive and melancholic, without leaning too hard on genre conventions. It's music that feels rooted in place, even when the specifics get blurry.
