Luna Sea formed in Tokyo in 1989, with vocalist Ryuichi Kawamura and guitarist Sugizo at the center. They were joined by bassist J, drummer Shinya, and keyboardist Inoran. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1991, followed by records like 'Image' and 'Eden' in the early 1990s.
Songs like 'I For You' and 'Rosier' became staples for the band, with 'I For You' in particular reaching a wide audience as a ballad. They kept recording through the decade, putting out 'Style' in 1996. In 2000, Luna Sea went on an indefinite hiatus, with the members working on solo projects.
