Lunatica formed in Germany in 1998, with Sandra Schleret on guitar and vocals. Their debut album 'The Edge of Infinity' came out the following year, built around Schleret's operatic vocals and the band's symphonic metal arrangements. They followed it with 'Atlantis' in 2001, which included the track 'The Incredibles' among its singles.
Schleret left the band in 2004, leading to a legal dispute over the Lunatica name that she eventually won. With new vocalist Liv Kristine and guitarist Dennis Wurth, the group released 'The Colony' in 2006, shifting toward more modern and experimental sounds compared to their earlier work.
Later albums like 'New Shores' in 2008 and 'The Black Waltz' in 2018 continued that evolution, moving further from their initial symphonic metal foundation.
