M Nasir

M Nasir was born Mohd Nasir bin Mohamed in 1964. He started playing music early, drawing from Malaysia's mix of traditional Melayu sounds, Western pop, and rock. In the early 1980s, he joined the band Kembara, where he worked on his songwriting before going solo in 1991 with his debut album 'Syair Untuk Warna Warni.'

His songs often have intricate melodies and poetic lyrics, with a straightforward emotional weight. You can hear this in tracks like 'Keroncong Untuk Ana' and 'Malam.' He's recorded over 10 solo albums, and his work includes collaborations with artists like Zainal Abidin and Ramli Sarip.

Some listeners have found his music complex, but it has maintained a steady audience. He's won awards including the Anugerah Juara Lagu, though the focus stays on the songs themselves rather than any grand narrative about his career.
