Mäbu

Mäbu formed in Mexico City around vocalist Marisol "Wicho" Meneses and guitarist Andrés "El Cha" Sánchez. Their music pulls from traditional Mexican rhythms, though they've never been strictly folk purists. Their 2013 self-titled debut mixed those roots with modern instrumentation, and by 2015's "Caimán" album, they had a clearer sense of their own sound.

That album's title track, "Caimán," became their most recognizable song. Other tracks like "A La Vez," "A Solas," and "Buenos Días" show their range across different albums. They've released several records since, including 2018's more experimental "El Jardín del Edén" and 2021's "Luna Nueva," which brought them back toward folk and rock.

The band includes bassist Jesús "Chihuas" Cuevas and drummer Arturo "El Güero" Aranda alongside Meneses and Sánchez. Their lyrics sometimes touch on social themes, which has occasionally drawn criticism, but they've kept working at their own pace. They've played festivals and collaborated with other artists, but mostly they've just kept making records that feel like their own.
