Macaco Mel formed in Barcelona in 1997 around singer-songwriter Dani Carbonell, with musicians including Juanito Makandé, Óscar Sánchez, and David Lozano joining early on. They spent years playing local venues before their 2005 album 'Ingravitto' brought wider attention. That record featured 'Bonita,' which became their most recognizable song.
Their music pulls from flamenco, reggae, and Latin rhythms, a mix evident on tracks like 'Malina' and 'Samba Soul.' They've released several albums since, including 'Puerto Presente' in 2009, 'El Murmullo del Fuego' in 2012, 'Historias Que Contar' in 2015, and 'Vuélame el Corazón' in 2019. Carbonell handles vocals and guitar, while Makandé adds vocals and guitar as well.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
