A Salvador-born band that mixed rock with samba roots in the early 2000s.
For a quick sense of their vibe, put on "Olhos Coloridos" and "Free-lance." That's the core of what they did.
Macau arrived with a sound that felt both modern and grounded in Brazilian tradition. Their 2003 track "Olhos Coloridos" became a genuine hit, one of those songs that seemed to be everywhere for a while. They weren't just another rock band, having Preta Gil, daughter of Gilberto Gil, on vocals gave their music a different kind of lineage.
The group formed in Salvador in 1998 with Preta Gil, Rodrigo Amarante, Pedro Baby, and Domenico Lancellotti. They released their debut album in 2003, then followed with records in 2005 and 2007.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
