Mad Cobra

Mad Cobra, born Ewart Brown, came up through the Kingston sound system circuit, working with King Tubby's and Black Scorpio before stepping out on his own. His 1995 single 'Flex' broke through internationally, becoming a dancehall anthem with its catchy rhythm and straightforward lyrics. That track, along with others like 'Pet And Pamper' and 'Lip War,' defined his early output.

He released albums like 'Step Into Reality' in 1996 and 'Cobra's Creed' in 1999, working with other Jamaican artists including Sizzla, Capleton, and Buju Banton. His music from that period carried the raw energy of the dancehall scene he came from, delivered with a direct vocal style that suited both party tracks and more pointed material.

In 2002, he faced a drug possession charge that was later dropped, and his lyrics sometimes drew criticism for their content. He kept recording through the early 2000s with albums like 'Straight to the Head,' maintaining a presence in reggae and dancehall without recapturing the widespread attention of the 'Flex' era.
