Madame Récamier formed in Mexico City around 2008 when vocalist Erica García began working with multi-instrumentalist Teo Sánchez. Their early single 'Jamás Pensé' gained attention for its blend of classical elements and electronic textures. García's voice became the consistent element in the band's sound, even as other musicians like percussionist Andrea Villegas and cellist Alma Cruz joined at different points.
Their first album 'L'Amour et la Mort' arrived in 2010, followed by 'Aeternus' in 2015. Both records explored themes of loss and longing through García's ethereal vocals and the band's atmospheric arrangements. Sánchez left the group in 2016 to work on his own projects.
In 2018, the band faced plagiarism accusations regarding their song 'La Llorona,' with claims it resembled a traditional Mexican folk song. The allegations were eventually dropped, but the incident marked one of the few public controversies surrounding their otherwise quiet career.
