Madox formed in Paris in 2003 with Karim Boutaleb on vocals, Guillaume d'Harcourt on guitar, Yoann Berquier on bass, and Nicolas Gabalda on drums. Their debut album, "A L'hôpital," came out the following year and dealt directly with themes of addiction. The record's title track and songs like "La Révolution Sexuelle" established their interest in dark, personal subject matter.
They followed that with albums like "Sphynx" in 2006 and "Chromatique" in 2009. Their music often mixed rock with electronic and ambient textures, creating atmospheric backdrops for Boutaleb's lyrics. Tracks such as "Organic" and "High On You" from this period show the band working within that layered, moody sound.
Madox kept recording into the 2010s, putting out "Kyrielle" in 2012. The song "On And On" fits with their earlier work, built around driving rhythms and introspective themes. They developed a following for music that didn't shy away from difficult topics, presented with a certain starkness.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
