Madvanna formed in Madrid in the late 1980s around guitarists David Palau and Marcos Del Fresno, with Javier Estepa on vocals and Luis Rodríguez on drums. Their debut album 'Una Mirada a la Vida' came out in 1992, mixing hard rock, metal, and punk elements. They built a following playing underground shows around that time.
Their second album 'Los Ángeles del Infierno' arrived in 1994, and its single 'Contra La Pared' became a hit across Spain. The song's lyrics about violence and drug use drew criticism from conservative commentators, but the band kept playing it live. Other tracks from that period include 'Quemando El Sueño' and 'Pretexto'.
After 'Contra La Pared,' Madvanna continued performing and recording. Their catalog includes songs like 'Doy El Verano' and 'Quieres Oír,' which maintained their rock sound without the same level of mainstream attention as their mid-90s breakthrough.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
