Magellan formed in Brazil in 1971 around guitarist and vocalist Aguinaldo Rayol and keyboardist Telo Borges. They were joined by bassist Sérgio Buss and drummer Lucinha Turnbull. Their debut album 'Genesis' came out in 1973, followed by records like 'Over the Edge' in 1974 and 'Voyager' in 1977.
Their songs often dealt with social themes. 'A Social Marginal' became one of their notable tracks, touching on feelings of alienation. The band's progressive rock style, with its intricate arrangements, developed a following in Brazil during the 1970s.
Their complex, extended instrumental passages also kept them somewhat separate from more mainstream rock listeners of the time. They continued recording into the 1980s with albums like 'Interface' in 1984.
