Mager de Fraga started in Salvador, Bahia, with Fabio Fraga on vocals and guitar, Magela Lima on bass and vocals, and Rinaldo Oliveira on drums. Their first album, 'A Lua do Amor,' came out in 2004 and got them noticed across Brazil. Songs like 'Coração de Ouro' and 'Arrependido' from their catalog show the kind of melodic, straightforward writing that caught people's ears early on.
They put out two more albums, 'Sobre o Mar' in 2007 and 'Navegar' in 2013. The band's sound shifted a bit over those records, picking up some reggae and jazz touches while keeping a base in Brazilian rhythms. Tracks such as 'Doce Tentação' and 'O Caso É Serio' reflect that mix of styles without getting too fussy about it.
There was some pushback from traditionalists who didn't like how they blended rock with local forms, but they kept going their own way. They didn't make a big deal out of it, just kept recording and playing. Their music has a plain, lived-in quality that doesn't try to be more than it is.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
