Magrão Lion is a Brazilian band that started playing in the early 2000s, performing at local bars and festivals. Their debut album came out in 2005, titled 'Diante do Mar (Esse Meu Lugar).' The title track from that album became a hit in Brazil, known for its poetic lyrics about hope and longing.
Their music often gets described as reggae with soulful melodies. Other songs people know include 'Mãos Para o Alto' and 'Os Seis Manés.' The band's lineup has included Magrão on vocals, Anderson Leonardo on bass, Fred Castro on drums, Renato Cezar on guitar, and Dado on saxophone.
They released several albums after their debut, including 'Um Novo Dia' in 2008, 'Pra Sempre' in 2011, 'Mar de Histórias' in 2015, and 'O Sol Vai Nascer' in 2018. In 2010, the band faced some plagiarism allegations that caused a temporary setback, but they kept making music.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
