Maj Karma formed in 1995 with Herra Ylppö on vocals, Häiriö Piirinen on bass, J. Savolainen on guitar, and Janne Marttila on drums. Their debut album 'Kaukana Puista' came out in 1999, followed by 'Kaakao' in 2001 and 'Sodankylän Mies' in 2003.
In 2005 they released the album 'Aavasaksa,' whose title track became a hit in Finland. The band's lineup changed in 2007 when Kimmo Kurittu replaced Piirinen on bass. They've put out several more albums since, including 'Ukkonen' in 2008, 'Salama' in 2011, and 'Puolikas' in 2020.
