Mal de Dois formed in Belo Horizonte in 1991 with Samuel Rosa on vocals and guitar, Marcelo Camelo on bass, Bruno Medina on drums, and Chico Amaral on keyboards. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1996, and the single 'Eu Vou Embora' became a hit. They've put out records like 'Vânius Boris' in 1998, 'Adonde Vivem os Anjos' in 2005, 'Nada Particular' in 2013, and 'Nós' in 2016.
Rosa's writing gives the band its voice, with songs like 'Acaso Programado' and 'A Meia Noite' showing his way with a lyric. The lineup has stayed mostly the same since the start, with Camelo, Medina, and Amaral rounding out the sound. They've worked with other Brazilian musicians like Nando Reis and Marisa Monte.
In 2003, they canceled a show in Belém, which upset some fans. Camelo has also had some personal issues that got attention. But the music, especially tracks like 'Mais de 60 Motivos' and 'A Razão', has kept people listening.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
