Mal Pagos formed in Buenos Aires around 1989, led by vocalist Diego Mateo. Their debut album was called "Cigarette Smoke," which gave them a reputation for hardcore punk energy in Argentina. The band's lineup included Eduardo "Gato" Baglietto on guitar, Cristian "Pity" Alvarez on bass, and Martin "Mosca" Velazco on drums.
They were known for confrontational performances that drew criticism from conservative circles, though they kept playing through it. Later albums like "La Fábrica" and "El Milagro" showed them experimenting with different sounds beyond punk. They also recorded a cover of "Eu Não Gosto de Ninguém."
In the early 2000s, Alvarez and Velazco left the band, leading to a period of instability. Mateo and Baglietto eventually reformed Mal Pagos with different musicians, but the original quartet had already broken up by then.
