Mala Juntera formed in Medellín, Colombia in 1993. The original lineup included Andrés Cepeda on vocals, Juan Carlos Restrepo on guitar, Mauricio Restrepo on drums, and Jaime Arroyave on bass. They started as a heavy metal band with a clear political edge.
Their song 'La Soga de David' became their signature track, criticizing government violence against the poor. The song faced radio bans and censorship threats from conservative groups in Colombia, but the band kept playing it anyway. They released several albums including 'La Soga de David' in 1993, 'El Cuarto' in 1995, and 'La Raza de los Reyes' in 1998.
By the 2000s, Juan Carlos Restrepo had taken over vocal duties while continuing to play guitar. The band kept recording, putting out self-titled work in 2004 and 'El Imperio de los Sueños' in 2010. Another track, 'Tu Eres Para Mí,' shows up in their catalog alongside their more politically charged material.
