Mala Medicina formed in Mexico City in the early 2000s around frontman Javier Estrada. The band included guitarist Gerardo "Geras" Enríquez, bassist Alejandro "Alex" Sánchez, and drummer Juan "Juanjo" Alcaraz. They played a mix of hard rock and punk with some Mexican elements, and their lyrics often touched on social and political themes.
Their song "3 Tiros, 2 Muertes Y 1 Destino" became something of an anthem for the band, telling a story about violence and desperation. Other tracks like "Agua y aceite" and "Esta noche es mi noche" show their range within that rough-edged rock style. Their debut album was self-titled, and they followed it with records like "El Mal Camino" and "La Última Dosis."
Mala Medicina developed a dedicated following called "Los Malos," but their outspoken lyrics also drew criticism and some legal trouble. They weren't easy to categorize, and that friction seemed part of their identity as a band.
