Malkin formed in Luanda, Angola, with members Nikotina NK, Luaty Beirão, and MCK. Their debut album 'Rap É Poesia' came out in 2013, which is also the title of one of their songs. They followed it with albums like 'Tudo Nosso' in 2016 and 'Kinga' in 2018.
Luaty Beirão and MCK were arrested in 2011 for involvement in anti-government protests. The group's music often touches on social justice themes alongside their hip-hop foundation. Other tracks in their catalog include '100 Km' featuring Wagner G, 'A Cura', 'A Pista Ferve', and 'Arte'.
Their sound incorporates Afro-Portuguese rhythms along with elements of jazz and soul. Nikotina NK handles much of the vocal work with introspective lyrics, while Luaty Beirão brings his activist perspective to the writing.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
