Mamôrra formed in 1993 with Alejandro Castrelo on vocals and gaita, Xoán Piñón on viola da gamba, Carlos Núñez on whistle and gaita, and Xosé Luis Romero on bodhrán and percussion. Their first album, 'Galician Roots,' came out in 1995. They've put out records fairly steadily since then, including 'Maremagnum' in 1998, 'Mariñeiro' in 2001, and 'Terra' in 2018.
Their song 'Luar Amigo' became something of a regional anthem. They played festivals like Celtic Connections in Glasgow and the Festival Interceltique de Lorient in France. The band took a break in the late 1990s after some internal disputes and lineup changes, but they regrouped and kept making music.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
