Manau

Manau formed in the Paris suburbs in 1998, built around Martial Tricoche and Cédric Soubiron. Their name comes from a Celtic word meaning 'great river,' which gives you a sense of where they were coming from. They mixed hip-hop with Celtic mythology and traditional sounds, which was an unusual combination at the time.

Their debut album 'Panique Celtique' came out that same year and included 'La Tribu De Dana,' the song that became their signature track. They followed it with albums like 'Fest Noz de Paname' in 2001 and 'Sixième Continent' in 2005, sticking with their blend of rapped verses and Celtic instrumentation. Other songs like 'Tout le monde' and 'Con J'pense' showed the same approach.

There was some noise about whether 'La Tribu De Dana' borrowed too heavily from traditional Irish music, but Manau maintained it came from their own research into Celtic sources. They kept recording into the 2010s, putting out 'Plein Fer' in 2013.
