She won Grammys in 1979 for Best New Artist and in 1982 for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Other songs like 'You Should Hear How She Talks About You' and 'Thief of Hearts' became part of her catalog. She worked with Barbra Streisand, Dolly Parton, and Peabo Bryson.

In the 1980s, she dealt with alcoholism and depression, which affected her work for a time. She later used those experiences in her music.
